Synthesis and Characterization of a Novel Bamboo Shaving Geopolymer Composite

Geopolymers are inorganic aluminosilicate materials, which have been a great research interest as material for sustainable development. However, they possess relatively low toughness properties similar to brittle solids. The limitation may be altered by fiber reinforcement improve their strength and toughness. This describes the synthesis of bamboo shaving (BS) reinforced geopolymer composites characterization mechanical properties. effect BS content (0–2 wt. %) on physical microstructure metakaolin based paste were investigated. workability, setting time, bulk density, apparent porosity, thermal conductivity, compressive strength, flexural scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) determined. results showed that conductivity decreased with increasing content. was proportional porosity good linear relation found between highest achieved at an optimum 1.0 %. microstructural analysis revealed act inforcing phase in matrix, reducing cracks making dense geopolymer, leads favorable adhesion produces composite better than pure geopolymer. when exceeded %, interfacial bonding matrix became less. XRD has little mineral composition metakaolin-based no new is formed.
